When Democrats Turn (On Each Other)

Imagine my surprise today at Camille Paglia’s column in Salon.Com today  in which she throws her fellow Democrats (and former Feminist idol Nancy Pelosi) under the bus.

Seriously.

Here’s a few samples:

Having said that, I must confess my dismay bordering on horror at the amateurism of the White House apparatus for domestic policy. When will heads start to roll?

What did Paglia expect from a Community Organizer turned President after just 144 days in the U.S. Senate to burnish his “credentials” for the highest office in the land?

Case in point: the administration's grotesque mishandling ofCamille Paglia healthcare reform, one of the most vital issues facing the nation. Ever since Hillary Clinton's megalomaniacal annihilation of our last best chance at reform in 1993 (all of which was suppressed by the mainstream media when she was running for president), Democrats have been longing for that happy day when this issue would once again be front and center.

It’s refreshing to finally see someone in the liberal lamestream media (even if it’s only lowly “salon.com”) admit that the Obama Administration can’t manage their behinds out of a wet paper bag!  And amusing to see Paglia throw her former idol Nancy Pelosi  under the bus.  But the most important thing is notice Paglia admits what those of us who oppose ObamaCare already knew: Democrats had this planned for years to seize control over health care.  It’s in their blood to want to micro-manage every aspect of our daily live.

Moving on…

But who would have thought that the sober, deliberative Barack Obama would have nothing to propose but vague and slippery promises -- or that he would so easily cede the leadership clout of the executive branch to a chaotic, rapacious, solipsistic Congress? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whom I used to admire for her smooth aplomb under pressure, has clearly gone off the deep end with her bizarre rants about legitimate town-hall protests by American citizens. She is doing grievous damage to the party and should immediately step down.

Obama had nothing but vague and slippery promises the entire 2008 Presidential campaign.  Many of you who are now just figuring this out heard what you wanted to hear back then.  It’s only now you’re coming to the realization of what it is Obama actually intended.  But then, this is what politicians do – lie.  Not only do they lie, they say what they think people want to hear in order to get elected so they can implement their agenda.  Paglia is only now coming to grips with the realization of what Obama’s true agenda is and like many Democrats is watching it destroy her party from within and without.  The Democrats are losing the “Independents” who are now 2:1 against Obama’s plans to seize control of Health Care.  Furthermore, more than 75% of all American’s are happy with their health care as-is. This doesn’t bode well for Obama or the Democrats as Paglia is now beginning to recognize.

You can keep your doctor; you can keep your insurance, if you're happy with it, Obama keeps assuring us in soothing, lullaby tones. Oh, really? And what if my doctor is not the one appointed by the new government medical boards for ruling on my access to tests and specialists? And what if my insurance company goes belly up because of undercutting by its government-bankrolled competitor? Face it: Virtually all nationalized health systems, neither nourished nor updated by profit-driven private investment, eventually lead to rationing."

Camille Paglia must’ve read the bill, here we see the first recognition by a member of the LIBERAL media that ObamaCare will eliminate choice and force us all into government run health care which will at it’s own discretion, deny tests, treatment and drugs to those who need them.  As you’re no spring chicken anymore Camille, ask yourself what happens under ObamaCare if you get breast cancer?  Will you get the treatment you need to live, or will you be one of those receiving palliative (end of life) care designed only to make your final days as comfortable as possible?  Now ask yourself who should make that decision in your best interests – you, or some Government bureaucrat?

As with the massive boondoggle of the stimulus package, which Obama foolishly let Congress turn into a pork rut, too much has been attempted all at once; focused, targeted initiatives would, instead, have won wide public support. How is it possible that Democrats, through their own clumsiness and arrogance, have sabotaged healthcare reform yet again? Blaming obstructionist Republicans is nonsensical because Democrats control all three branches of government. It isn't conservative rumors or lies that are stopping healthcare legislation; it's the justifiable alarm of an electorate that has been cut out of the loop and is watching its representatives construct a tangled labyrinth for others but not for themselves. No, the airheads of Congress will keep their own plush healthcare plan -- it's the rest of us guinea pigs who will be thrown to the wolves.

So much for being one of the favored few, the “elites” eh Camille?  Finally figured out that there are really only two classes in our society today – the political ruling class and then the rest of us?

And what do Democrats stand for, if they are so ready to defame concerned citizens as the "mob" -- a word betraying a Marie Antoinette delusion of superiority to ordinary mortals. I thought my party was populist, attentive to the needs and wishes of those outside the power structure. And as a product of the 1960s, I thought the Democratic party was passionately committed to freedom of thought and speech.

Your Democrats Camille, have demonstrated that their ruthless pursuit of government control over our daily lives, and marginalizing anyone who dare’s disagree with them will cause even the most brainwashed, Democrat sycophant to wake up and ask “what’s happening to our country?”  Free speech for me, but not for thee indeed.

The ethical collapse of the left was nowhere more evident than in the near total silence of liberal media and Web sites at the Obama administration's outrageous solicitation to private citizens to report unacceptable "casual conversations" to the White House. If Republicans had done this, there would have been an angry explosion by Democrats from coast to coast. I was stunned at the failure of liberals to see the blatant totalitarianism in this incident, which the president should have immediately denounced. His failure to do so implicates him in it.

Why is this a surprise Camille?  Democrats have been doing this for a very long time along with their willing co-conspirators the mainstream media squelching dissent in this country.  No one has felt this more than Conservatives.  Frankly speaking, you yourself have been part of the problem for years now.  It’s only now that you’re seeing your favored Democrat party apparatchik turning on you – a member of their own party – who is failing to fall in line on an issue that’s near and dear to your heart.  Your awakening to what’s going on in this country, while uncomfortable for you, is something many of us experienced long ago.

And now the coup de gras:

I simply do not understand the drift of my party toward a soulless collectivism. This is in fact what Sarah Palin hit on in her shocking image of a "death panel" under Obamacare that would make irrevocable decisions about the disabled and elderly. When I first saw that phrase, headlined on the Drudge Report, I burst out laughing. It seemed so over the top! But on reflection, I realized that Palin's shrewdly timed metaphor spoke directly to the electorate's unease with the prospect of shadowy, unelected government figures controlling our lives. A death panel not only has the power of life and death but is itself a symptom of a Kafkaesque brave new world where authority has become remote, arbitrary and spectral. And as in the Spanish Inquisition, dissidence is heresy, persecuted and punished.

What Camille Paglia is finally waking up to is the fact that no matter one’s political persuasion, this government is completely out of control – and has been for a very long time.  The brewing revolution in this country isn’t about Barack Obama being the first black President of this country.

The brewing revolution is all about Obama’s mashing the gas pedal to the floorboards in Government’s stated desire to have more control over our daily lives.

To put it in perspective, this slow steady march to Socialism began under Jimmy Carter who told us we had to tolerate the Communists and lower our standard of living, was delayed by Ronald Reagan who’s policies ultimately defeated Communism, then advanced under the first Bush administration with the then largest tax increase in history, further advanced by Bill Clinton who’s administration also tried seizing control of health care and  attacked the First, Second and Fourth amendments, then under the second President Bush via the “Patriot Act”, “Free Drugs for Seniors” which was the largest expansion of the Welfare State since Lyndon Johnson, and finally the Socialization of America’s banks through a costly (and likely Constitutionally prohibited) bailout.

Now comes Barack Obama who’s advancing the march towards Socialism by carrying out Bush’s “bank bailouts” and spending   approximately $2 trillion dollars of our children’s and grandchildren’s money on unnecessary government spending on stupid, unnecessary programs such as the “economic stimulus” which has yet to produce one job, auto-industry bailouts that rewarded extreme leftist unions that supported him, and the attempted seizure of all health care to be managed by the Government.

Why are people upset?  The anger has been brewing for a long, long time.  The fact that the same government that couldn’t properly manage a $3 billion “cash for clunkers” program now wants to completely control our health care is what pushed so many over the edge.

This is why American’s are angry, and why revolution is brewing in our hearts – we see the increasing daily incursion into their lives by an activist Government and we want no part of it.

Just like Camille Paglia wonders what’s happened to her Democrat Party apparatchik the rest of us wonder what’s happened to our country.

When steadfastly  loyal Democrats like Camille Paglia seemingly wake up to the damage that’s been done to this country we should do but one thing: Welcome her to the fight.

Yes Camille Paglia, Soylent green is people.
