During the Bush Administration, Congress enacted a law which barred enemy combatants (terrorists) from being transferred to U.S. soil except if they were to be prosecuted.
Today, the Obama administration announced that Gitmo detainees are to be transferred to the Thomson Correctional Center, located 150 miles west of Chicago. No trials are planned.
Is Obama violating the law, and is this an impeachable offense?
Obama Administration officials admit that the current law allows for bringing in Gitmo inmates for putting them on trial however a change in the current law would be required for transferring terrorists to Thomson Correctional Center for any purpose other than prosecution.
