Federal Prosecutors Blow It, Vows Re-Trial

By now you’ve likely heard that former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (D.) was convicted on the lesser of 24 counts against him by an Illinois Jury.

That count, “lying to the Federal Prosecutor” carries a maximum sentence of 5 years.

On the remaining 23 counts, the jury hung. Not surprising to me, after all this is Illinois and as you, the rest of the country are figuring out we invented political corruption here.

So why did the jury hang on 23 of 24 counts?  Simple.  Let’s start with 24 counts.  Patrick Fitzgerald threw 24 charges at Blagojevich, many of which had one to six counts against them.  For each charge, the jury needed to consider each individual count in order to convict Blagojevich.

Then there were the more than 150 rules that governed how the jury would debate and convict or absolve Blagojevich.

24 charges, and more than 100 individual counts, and 150 rules for an Illinois Jury to consider and convict or absolve what is unarguably the most corrupt Governor in Illinois history. 

So what are we to make of the results of this trial?

First, as I said in the beginning Fitzgerald made this case way too complex.  Throwing 24 charges and more than 100 individual counts against the wall thinking something would ultimately stick was a losing strategy. 

Second, 150 rules governing debate and conviction in the jury room was just too over the top.

What jury in the world would stand for such nonsense? 

Patrick Fitzgerald didn’t make his case.  After 6 weeks of playing tapes, the Federal Prosecutor’s office was banking on Blagojevich taking the stand and “tripping him up” to drive home a guilty verdict.

The jury obviously knows Blago is guilty of corruption.  They also understand that Fitzgerald is an out of control Federal Prosecutor who should’ve kept the case simple, charging Blago with the most aggregious crimes such as Racketeering and gone for that conviction.

Therefore, the jury’s guilty verdict on the lesser of all the charges and hanging on the remaining 23 sends a clear message to those who would prosecute the rampant corruption here in Illinois in the future: Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Fitzgerald announced minutes after the Judge declared a mistrial on 23 counts that they would be re-trying the case here in Illinois in Federal Court.

Please Mr. Fitzgerald – spare us poor taxpayers.  You took your best shot and you failed.  The $25 - $50 million it’ll cost for a retrial is desperately needed elsewhere.  Our schools, more police, and fixing our roads comes to mind. 

You lost Mr. Fitzgerald, take the 5 year conviction for lying to the Federal Prosecutor and walk away.  You’d be doing us taxpayers in Illinois a huge favor.

Obama's comments over the weekend have our terrorist enemies in the Middle East celebrating.

As Obama backed the planting of islam's victory flag near the site of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, muslims around the world started asking "can we practice sharia law in the United States?"

The answer is: of course!  While Obama may not have fully understood the consequences of his statement, muslims in the United States and world-wide certainly did.  We've already had "honor killings" in the United States and forced conversions to islam at islamic day camps in Iowa and Minnesota.  Are sharia courts far behind?  Not if Obama has his way.

Culturally, Obama grew up a muslim which certainly explains his position(s) on the building of a mosque on what you and I would consider "sacred ground."  But not to Obama, who considers the whole issue "traumatic" for many.

Was Pearl Harbor a "traumatic" issue on December 7th, 1941 or was it an act of war?  Of course it was an act of war - just as much as Sept. 11th, 2001 was an act of war against America by radical islamic fundamentalists.  And now these same radical islamic fundamentalists are celebrating the planting of their victory flag within steps of the most horrific attack against America since Pearl Harbor.

We would never let the Japanese fly their national flag above the site of the U.S.S. Arizona, yet Obama doesn't see the conflict of allowing the very religion that attacked our country plant a victory flag via building a mosque, within steps of the World Trade Center.

Culturally, Obama is a muslim.  His father was one, he attended a madrassa, and for a substantive portion of his life he grew up as one.  His "sensitivities" towards muslims don't extend towards Christians and Jews, otherwise he'd have said "you can build your mosque here when the United States of America - a Christian Nation - is allowed to build a Christian worship center in Mecca."

We have a muslim in the White House folks.  Obama removed all doubt this weekend. 

By the way, the Obama's have yet to find a place of Christian Worship in D.C. yet, some 18+ months after Obama assumed the Presidency.  I"m just saying.

Obama Backs Mosque at Ground Zero

I guess it should be no surprise that the first Muslim “President” who just so happens to be aligned with domestic terrorists like William Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn would endorse his brother muslims planting a victory flag at Ground Zero.

Obama on Friday forcefully endorsed building a mosque near ground zero, saying the country's founding principles demanded no less. "As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country," Obama said, weighing in for the first time on a controversy that has riven New York and the nation. "That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances," he said. "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."

I guess in this country practicing one’s religious freedoms is only possible if one isn’t a Christian or Jew after all, this is the same “President” that endorsed Sharia Law in Africa.

This is also the same “President” that picked a “sharia compliant” financial advisor as a White House Fellow just this past June.

Need I remind anyone that Obama also ordered NASA to change their mission to make muslims “feel better” about themselves? 

Then there’s Obama’s pronouncement that islam is a “great religion” just last September, combined with his brilliant statement that the United States “is not, and never will be, at war with islam.”

Right.  We’re not at war with islam, but islam is at war with us.

But hey, Obama wouldn’t know anything about that having grown up in a muslim country and attending a madrassa, now would he?

Illegal Immigration Decimates Maywood, California

This transmission is the last 4 minutes of the Maywood Police Department.

Maywood is a suburb of Los Angeles and was at one time "Leave it to Beaver" community.  Over the years, the original citizens moved away and it became a 98% Mexican (predominately illegal) community of renters. 

The taxes of the properties were still being assessed at the rates of the owners from the 1940s.  The population exploded from one family per household to as many as 5 families per household.  5 times the population put a huge strain on the infrastructures of police, fire, paramedics and schools without taxes to support it.

All but one of the city officials were Mexican, just one generation from the border, and sympathetic to the "poor immigrants."  These same City officials then refused to pass laws overseeing the percentage of homes rented or number of persons allowed in one home.  The city went bankrupt and fired all of its employees. 

Now, the County of Los Angeles is compelled by law to provide those services.  The citizens of other communities in Los Angeles County are now footing the bill for police, fire, and schools, sewage, water, parks, street repair.  The county is already stretched to its limits because Maywood is one of at least a dozen other suburbs whose infrastructure is crumbling because of the same issues.  The Maywood employees lost their jobs, benefits, and retirements.   

 

You'll here the radio code "10-7"  That is the code when a patrol unit goes out of service.  You'll hear the calls signs of "Lincoln" and "Charlie."  Those are codes for Lieutenants and Captains.  The dispatcher is a Los Angeles County Sheriff dispatcher who read the history of the Maywood police Department.

In essence the back of Maywood California was broken.  American citizens lost good jobs that every American citizen dreams of. 

Supporters of open borders and those who turn their backs on illegal immigration say that immigrants only take away jobs that Americans don't want to do. 

Really?  Listen to the voices of the officers signing off for the last time.  These employees were not tomato pickers.  They were dedicated, hard working AMERICANS and protectors of the public. They lost their jobs, benefits and retirements because the financial back of the town was broken by rampant illegal immigration while “city officials” turned their heads the other way.

If you listen carefully, you’ll hear the dispatcher mention two of the Maywood California police department’s officers that are currently deployed in Afghanistan.  They will come home – unemployed, thanks to liberal policies that allow illegal immigrants to run rampant and decimate a city’s services.

Think it can’t happen in your town?  You may want to think again.

State Nullification Movement Gains Momentum

The “Show Me” state just showed ObamaCare the door yesterday. 

By a 75% to 25% margin, voters in Missouri told the Obama Administration and the Federal Government to piss off by approving Proposition C – The Health Care Freedom Act.

Life is beautiful, even if just for today – Obama’s alleged birthday.

The law states:

No law or rule shall compel, directly or indirectly, any person, employer, or health care provider to participate in any health care system.

and

A person or employer may pay directly for lawful health care services and shall not be required by law or rule to pay penalties or fines for paying directly for lawful health care services. A health care provider may accept direct payment for lawful health care services and shall not be required by law or rule to pay penalties or fines for accepting direct payment from a person or employer for lawful health care services.

This is a flat-out rejection of ObamaCare by the Voters of Missouri.   The principle behind the legislation passed and approved by the voters is that of State Nullification.  When a state “nullifies” a federal law or mandate, it is effectively stating that the federal law violates States Rights as defined in the United States Constitution, and is therefore “null and void” within the boundaries of that state.

The legislation also means that the full force of the State will be used   to protect the rights and liberties of its states’ citizenry from harm against the Federal Government should it try enforcing the law within that state. 

Voters in Virginia, Idaho, Louisiana and Utah have already passed their own “Health Care Freedom Acts” also nullifying ObamaCare in those states.  Arizona and Oklahoma are scheduled to vote on it this November, while movements are afoot in at least 20 other states to do the same.

Happy Birthday Obama!  How’s that “Hope and Change” working out for you?

Paying People Not To Work

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately 1.4 million people have been out of work for 99 weeks or more, and have now exhausted their unemployment “benefits.”

Long term unemployment is at record levels.  It now takes more than 6 months for an average worker to find new employment.  Our unemployment rate has exceeded 9% for the second year in a row under the Obama Administration.

Not since the Great Depression has this country had an unemployment rate above 9% for two years in a row.  Over the last 18 months, the average unemployment rate has been 9.5%. 

Obama’s economic policies (TARP, “Stimulus”, Government seizure of Automobile companies, Banks, Health Care) drove the unemployment rate all the way up to 10.2% in February – April of this year alone.

So how’s that “hope and change” working out for the country?

By the looks of it, not well at all.  Like me, you’re probably pining for the good old days of 2005. 

Remember 2005, when the Democrats claimed that George W. Bush had “wrecked” the economy?  Remember Nancy Pelosi saying we were all living in the “worst economy since the Great Depression?”

As we all now know, 2005 was a banner year for our economy with a record low 4.5% unemployment which by all economic measures meant that everyone who wanted a job, had a job.  Job creation peaked in 2005 with an average of 200,000 net, new jobs being created month over month for more than three and a half years beginning in 2002.

Since then what happened?  Well, in 2006 the Democrats seized Congress and began their anti-business agenda.  The chart above doesn’t lie as it shows unemployment levels creeping up along with jobless “benefits” that have been paying people not to work.  The average unemployment duration and payout of benefits has more than quadrupled since Democrats took over Congress and the White House and increasingly American’s are waking up to this fact.  That truth is reflected in Obama’s and Congress’ record high disapproval ratings and America’s pessimism about the direction the country is headed.

So while others opine about the ethics scandals of Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters, Obama’s handling of the Gulf oil spill, his desire to instantly nationalize more than 15 million illegal immigrants bypassing Congress to do so and Obama’s foreign policy failures, the fact is the economy is the number one issue on the minds of average American’s.  They recognize that the path this country is on is unsustainable and the federal government’s penchant for destroying job creation while simultaneously seeking to control every aspect of our daily lives is not the answer. 

Hell, we could lower the minimum wage to $1.50 per hour and it’s still not going to fix this economic disaster Obama’s policies has created!

The path forward as we right thinking American’s all know and understand is to neuter the Democrats in November, stopping the Federal Government’s job destroying, out of control spending ways and restoring responsible fiscal sanity in the halls of Congress.

In short, it’s the economy stupid.

Clear Majority of New Yorkers Favor ObamaCare Repeal

Tide Turns Against Big Daddy Government In Top Liberal State

A new Rasmussen Reports survey of public opinion in New York finds a solid majority of respondents favor repeal of Obamacare, with 56 percent overall favoring and 41 percent saying they strongly favor repeal.

Only 42 percent oppose repeal, with only 31 percent, or slightly less than one-third, strongly opposing repeal, according to Rasmussen.

These figures place New York firmly in the national mainstream of opinion on the issue of repealing Obamacare:

"The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 58% of voters favor repeal, including 48% who Strongly Favor it. Thirty-seven percent (37%) are opposed to repeal, with 28% who are Strongly Opposed," Rasmussen said.

New Senate Energy Bill is a Poison Pill

Environmentalist Dream Will Kill Economy, Destroy American Way of Life

The American Thinker has an excellent analysis online today by Brian Sussman, a former Meteorologist and author of Climategate: A Veteran Meteorologist Exposes The Global Warming Scam.

A “slimmed down” version of Cap and Trade is targeted for passage by the Lame Duck Congress after the November 2nd elections.  This bill if passed mandates homeowners spend thousands of dollars to comply with a new “Home Star Retrofit Act of 2010” via “environmental compliance upgrades.”  If passed, this act will further depress the housing industry and drive home prices down further, no doubt a goal of the Obama Administration to deplete American’s wealth via transfer to Federal Government coffers. 

Smart Meters will also be required across the country, giving control of YOUR electricity usage to the Federal Government who will then calculate what your “carbon footprint” should be, and “entice” you to reduce it via “economic rewards” to do so.

To make matters worse, the same bill would require Fannie Mae, already tens of billions of dollars in the red to become the official lender of first resort for those homeowners who could not otherwise afford to “upgrade” their homes doors, windows and heating systems.  That’s right, section 3015 of the “Home Star Retrofit Act of 2010” forces Fannie Mae to lend even more money, taking on even more debt, from homeowners who cannot afford their homes in the first place!

10 More Reasons The Democrats Are Toast

Obama’s Base Quits Blaming Bush

Yesterday’s Daily Beast had a great column by Mark McKinnon which outlined the reasons why Democrats have much to fear in this coming November’s elections. 

As someone who’s written extensively on this very topic, I really appreciated the way McKinnon broke down the top 10 reasons why Democrats are toast and think his entire column bears reading, but this one happens to be my favorite since I’ve been screaming it for the last 4 years now, since the Democrats took over Congress:

Folks in the real world don’t blame Bush for decisions made by Democrats—in control of the House, Senate, and White House—in the last two years.

Here McKinnon gets it mostly right, however he fails to recognize that Democrats have had control of Congress since 2006, and therefore have been responsible for the exploding budget deficits of the last three years. Congress controls the spending purse strings after all, the President does not.

The last Bush/Republican budget deficit of 2007 (created by the Republican Congress of 2006) was $210 billion dollars, including costs of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Democrats seized control of Congress in January of 2007 and promptly blew the budget deficit up to $450 billion dollars for fiscal year 2008, then more than quadrupled it for 2009.

** Note: Congress passes its budgets for the next Fiscal Year.  The first Democrat Budget passed in 2007 for fiscal year 2008.

Is it any surprise that 2009’s budget deficit exceeded $1.75 TRILLION dollars, and for 2010 is projected to be $1.3 TRILLION, and continuing to run deficits as far as the eye can see?

Anyone who looks at these facts quickly loses confidence in the Democrats “ability” to control spending.  This is why the Democrats theme of “Blame Bush” continues today, they want to distract from their own exploding budget deficits and once again make the upcoming election about Bush.  From their perspective, it worked in 2008 – even though Bush couldn’t run again – so why wouldn’t it work again?

But then there’s that old adage, “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.”

I suspect voters won’t be fooled again, they’ve seen who’s been running things the last two years as Democrats have controlled the House, Senate and White House and don’t like how their tax money is being spent, and their children are forced into tax servitude for this Administration’s economic follies.
